Miks Mitrēvics
Miks Mitrēvics works in a range of media, including photography, video, sound, multimedia and installations. His works are characterised by sensitive visual language and an ability to create a subjective memory atmosphere with minimal resources. He often employs everyday objects, images and personages in his “rooms,” who are used to discuss both personal and general processes. “Fragile Nature” is created as a theatrical mise-en-scene, which seeks to create an impression in the viewer regarding the most important episodes of life. It illuminates the importance of the sun and light both through their transformation effect on the environment and the associations they prompt. The sculptural structure itself is so fragile it seems to be located in a time or space between the bygone and the next moment. In Mitrēvics’ artistic world, an artwork is never static or complete. It could be said that the work is never finished, or it undergoes many rebirths. At every moment of creation, Mitrēvics’ installations have meaning, but at the same time these meanings are so unstable and transitory that at every subsequent moment the artist’s instinct and intuition leads the viewer into another room of fleeting memories.
