Alnis Stakle

Alnis Stakle (1975) is a photographer and a two-time laureate of the Sony World Photography Awards (2022; 2011). His photographic series “L.S.D.” or “Living Space Daugavpils” (“Dzīves telpa Daugavpils”) was created between 1998 and 2006, documenting the urban environment of Daugavpils. In these works, he records the city’s visual contrasts and social paradoxes during a period when Latvia was undergoing significant transformations - from the fading traces of the Soviet legacy to integration into the European Union.

The series “L.S.D.” convincingly represents the artist’s characteristic distanced and research-based documentation of environments and people. It is one of the author’s most recognizable and cohesive documentary series and has been exhibited both in Latvia and internationally.
