Anna Ceipe
Anna Ceipe (1990) is a visual artist whose practice explores glass and the interaction of diverse media, focusing on personal experience and the processes of memory. In her work, memory is understood as a fluid narrative that is activated through materials, sensations, and space.
Her works are created from combinations of organic and inorganic materials that are transformed into objects and spatial installations. They often function as sensory stimuli that evoke memories in the viewer, drawing on scent, touch, and other sensory impressions to create ephemeral sculptural experiences.
Ceipe graduated from the Visual Communication Department of the Art Academy of Latvia and also studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Belgium. Her work has been exhibited both in Latvia and internationally, including in Brussels, Tallinn, Paris, and Marseille.
Anna Ceipe’s (1990) objects "Wild Strawberries" were created for her solo exhibition "Memoryescapes"(2025) at Kim? Contemporary Art Centre. The strawberries form a concentrated symbol, in which each element reflects a separate fragment of memory, while together they create a unified narrative about the origins of experience. Through this expressive form, Ceipe explores how memories blossom, fade, and transform, much like symbols rooted in traditions and landscapes that have historically shaped both private and collective experiences. Strung on a blade of grass, the strawberries activate the viewer’s senses and emotional perception in the context of memory, while also becoming a metaphor for the preservation of experience, tradition, and identity.
