Armīns Ozoliņš

Armīns Ozoliņš (1970) is a Latvian designer and installation artist who began his active career after graduating from Tallinn Art University in 1995. Ozoliņš uses artisanal skills to create artistically expressive forms; he makes leather, creates sculptures and objects, films, photographs, paints and does graphic design as well as applying classic graphics techniques. The artist has created both purely conceptual works and in op art-like style. Selecting an analytically distanced viewpoint, Ozoliņš also frequently studies perception in his installations and holograms.

“The Limit of Freedom” was first displayed at the Latvian-Finnish artists’ exhibition “Logs/Spogulis” (Window/Mirror) at Helsinki Exhibition Hall and afterwards in Riga. The artist offers a view into a surreal, lighted condensation of architectonic form, opening a window to a strange, closed space with no exit formed from slides. These depict various interior details, which the artist employs to comment on the meaning of the terms freedom and home.
