Golf Clayderman / Margrieta Griestiņa, Aksels Bruks

Golf Clayderman is a creative partnership between younger generation artists Margrieta Griestiņa and Aksels Bruks, who work with a diverse range of media including performance, musical theatre, lifestyle, fashion and body art. Their instigated art happenings are filled with humour and irony, enabling viewers to laugh at both themselves and the morals of society as expressed through mass culture. The video “Sturm der Liebe auf dem Golf Platz / Love Storm on the Golf Course” is a sarcastic, absurd message about golf, the beloved leisure activity of wealthy white heterosexual men, taking this sport from its exclusive pedestal and making it accessible to everyone. The title of the work reveals the film’s subject matter and location. Various elements from contemporary subcultures are blended with the aesthetic of 1990s TV shows, while domestic comedy elements are displayed through buffoonery.
