Katrīna Biksone
Katrīna Biksone (1999) is one of the youngest generation of painters working with the principles of expanded painting practice. Her work engages with space and extends into three dimensions - into objects. Biksone's work is associated with the “new sensibility” movement. Her practice is characterized by an exploration of belonging, the creation of spatial perception, emotional intensity, and a genuine openness to expanding the boundaries of painting.
In 2023, she received the SEB Scholarship in Painting and the Nordic and Baltic Young Artists Award in the category “Best Young Painter.” In 2025, she was awarded the professional art award “Linstow.”
The works Drifting Away (2025) and Outside (2025) are from Katrīna Biksone’s solo exhibition Anatomy of Occupied Lines (2025), held at the Contemporary Art Space “Tur”. In the large-scale painting Drifting Away, the “accept” and “decline” icons of an incoming call float in a gentle, highly abstracted environment. The small-scale painting Outside, depicting a kind yet slightly melancholic biomorphic figure, serves as a key work of the exhibition.
