Kristaps Epners
Kristaps Epners (1976) is an internationally respected artist working with photography, video, installations, sound art, graphics and sculpture. His work often centres on studying human emotional and physical boundaries, an anthropological approach making use of personal and archival materials. In his video installation “Forget me Not,” Epners used family archival materials. The story focuses on a friend of the artist’s father, the poet Miervaldis Kalniņš, who voluntarily moved from Latvia to Siberia in 1971. The original newsreel was filmed by Kalniņš in Tuva as well as his extensive correspondence conjure up scenes akin to an adventure story with himself in the leading role, while Epners’ works become a multimedia biographical essay.
