Magone Boleiko

Magone Boleiko’s paintings depict everyday phenomena which may have slipped by our perception. She studies familiar and prosaic things and situations which, thanks to lengthy observation, have acquired new poetic depth in her works.

Boleiko entered the art scene in the first decade of the 21st century with the consciously impersonal approach typical of that era, i.e. with clean, large colour fields and texture smoothed out on the surface of the image.

The works “The Universe” and “Light” are typical examples, as the weighty materiality of the subjective environment is playfully combined with an impressionistically light, momentary composition, while everyday reality is divided between colour relationships and tonal transitions. Magone’s works combine an analytically decorative approach with technologically aesthetic romantic and strict line lyricism, rooted in the Bauhaus idea of the co-existence between aesthetics and functionality. Playing freely with the subjective environment, the artist gives an additional painterly quality to the functionally impersonal big city world, and with the same lightness transforms decoratively synthetic elements into traditional, painterly expressive plant and nature motifs.
