Viktor Timofeev

Viktor Timofeev was born in Riga, and in 1996 he moved with his family to New York, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in art at prestigious Hunter College. In recent years, his artistic career has been closely linked with Europe and Latvia. Timofeev works with diverse media, including digital installations, drawing and virtual reality tools, with which he models situations in imagined realities.

In his work process, Timofeev encompasses, absorbs and compiles materials from diverse sources (field notes, media resources in internet databases, computer created images etc.) and reworks them into repeatable images and complex structures.

In “A≠B,” the core elements are androgynous, humanoid dolls forming colourful, dynamic masses. “Despite all their efforts, these little people” don’t have a psychological dimension, rather they are key informational elements, abstract units from which the artist builds micro and macro structures which are regulated by certain laws, limits on freedom and development  trajectories. Observing the interaction of these colourful bodies is as captivating as watching the chaotic yet law-governed movement of molecules in various environments.
